Dr. Alan J. Durkin
Alan J. Durkin, M.D. serves as Medical Director for By Design Marketing. He has published over twenty peer-reviewed articles on topics including surgical oncology, therapeutic EGF receptor antagonism as cancer treatment, portal hypertension, breast reconstruction, cosmetic body contouring, hand surgery, and multisystem trauma. Dr. Durkin has also presented at numerous national and international surgical meetings and has been recognized with numerous honors and awards in medicine.
Dr. Durkin is currently a private practitioner and Board Certified Plastic Surgeon at Advanced Facial Cosmetic and Laser Surgery Center located in Vero Beach, FL. Dr. Durkin is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as, the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Durkin specializes in facial plastic surgery and plastic surgery of the breast including breast augmentations, breast lifts, breast reconstructions, and secondary breast augmentations (repairing bad augmentations). Dr. Durkin is on the medical staff at Sebastian River Medical Center (Sebastian, FL), Indian River Medical Center (Vero Beach, FL), and Riverside Surgical Weight Loss Center (Sebastian, FL). Dr. Durkin is also an entrepreneur, who spends time investigating new health information management systems and protocols for the development of electronic medical records and patient management systems.
Dr. Durkin attended the University of Miami for his undergraduate degree in Biology, graduating magna cum laude. He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Medical Radiation Physics from the Rosalind Franklin University of Health Sciences in Chicago. After completing his Masters, Dr. Durkin matriculated into the University of South Florida College of Medicine. During this period, he developed a strong affinity for clinical and translational research, as well as the clinical practice of surgery. After earning his Medical Degree, he went on to complete two full residencies in General Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at University of South Florida. During his post-graduate tenure, Dr. Durkin completed a surgical oncology research fellowship at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, an experience that allowed him to cultivate his skills at translational research, clinical trial design, and scientific research investigation.
